EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy involves working with memories, body sensations, emotions and core self-beliefs. With the help of your therapist, EMDR aims to help you unlock the power of your own innate healing ability to find resolution and freedom from your past.
Over time, trauma symptoms may decrease, helping you to recall past events with reduced or no emotional charge. Although an overall reduction in trauma symptoms can be expected, it is important to note that as with any other therapy, outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
Unlike our trauma informed counselling, EMDR is a fast-paced, structured form of therapy, but it is not a quick fix. It is important that you are in a good frame of mind as you may experience strong feelings and disturbing thoughts during reprocessing. Good personal support, a stable home environment and strategies that keep you emotionally safe are important before you start. We can work with you on strengthening coping strategies before you start, if necessary.
EMDR is a 1:1 service delivered online or face to face on our premises. Face to face sessions are available at the following locations:
- Chippenham: Thursdays
- Salisbury: Wednesdays or Fridays
- Swindon: Tuesdays or Wednesday mornings
- Trowbridge: Tuesdays
